Prediction Blog: Springtrap vs Junko Enoshima
“Evil doesn't die. It never dies. It just takes on a new face, a new name. Just because we've been touched by it once, it doesn't mean we're immune to ever being hurt again...” - Tess Gerritsen
Junko Enoshima, the Ultimate Despair.
True evil cannot be concocted in a lab. It cannot be instilled into a conscious mind, nor can it be extracted and replicated. Actors cannot fake it. Artists cannot portray it. It cannot be taught in a school or brought about by any sort of societal upbringings. No, true evil is an occurrence that rears its horrible, disgusting visage when the world simply needs a shift in the paradigm, when some higher power declares that the world cannot exist in such an extant state of perfection.
And, once it’s born, it’s really damn hard to get rid of.
These two have spawned carnage in their wake, targeting the premature and using them for a greater purpose. While their lives may have been snuffed short, their resounding impacts never truly died, as their ideals and machinations found newer and newer hosts. Though they present as machines, the humans within have much darker desires... but, when put head to head, whose legacies might stand undaunted? Let's find out!
Before we begin…
🚨 🚨 Massive, and I mean humongously MASSIVE spoiler warning for the entirety of both Five Nights at Freddy's and Danganronpa! 🚨 🚨
Uh, we'll tackle that later, for now I have brought you guys another treat! See, after cracking eggs and building killer robots, I have once more kidnapped my friends Chris and Pit and forced them to make a prediction blog for me, but this time we also let KingCorporeal come out of the dungeon for this one.
[Hi, Corp here! Glad to be here for my official Loka’s Blogs research debut! Hopefully this isn’t the last you’ll see of me here, but if I disappear after this one then check Loka’s basement. I’d love to be on more stuff in the future, if you need me to write verdicts, so just let me know if- hey, what’re you doing with tha-]
((SLAM))
Uh... that's right, it's another collaboration blog! I told you they'd be happening every now and then, and hoo boy if we didn't pick a puzzle of a matchup this time. Speaking of the matchup itself, I hope you enjoy as we go into deeper specifics about this one.
For William, Five Nights at Freddy’s is a bit divisive when it comes to how to interpret its canon, as it is notorious for its multimedia presence and how each interpretation presents its own isolated narrative. While the games obviously will be our main source, we will also be considering the Silver Eyes trilogy of novels, the movie, and any relevant Fazbear Frights and Tales from the Pizzaplex short stories. While they may not take place within the main timeline, they are described as being “separate possibilities” to a degree where the game version of Afton should be capable of performing everything in this content. Further elaboration is provided in the BTV section. In addition, we’ll be looking into Afton’s inclusion in Dead by Daylight, just for fun!
For Junko, who is much simpler comparatively, the main source for her will be the Danganronpa video games and Danganronpa 3 anime (which is connected to the mainline continuity). The various DR novels, light novels, and manga will also be analysed, as they delve further into Junko’s story.

Welcome to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza! A magical place for kids and grown-ups alike, where fantasy and fun come to life! Fazbear Entertainment has managed to last many, many years serving up smiles and bringing children to their Happiest Days… but unfortunately, it is also a franchise constantly surrounded by tragedy. Children disappearing without a trace, their bodies never found. Animatronics going haywire and attacking security guards. Agony piling up more and more with each location that opened up. All of that being traced back to one man. William Afton.
Not much is known of Afton’s younger years, but the man was filled with ambition. Alongside his partner Henry Emily, they created Fredbear’s Family Diner, a simple place where families could be together and experience moments of joy. They even created two animatronics with special springlock technology for the establishment, the golden Fredbear himself as well as a yellow rabbit named Spring Bonnie, who William developed a bit of a fascination towards, wearing it as a suit as he entertained others. If only things remained so simple...
The order of the following events is still a mystery heavily debated on by those trying to understand the true cause of the Fazbear murders. But there are things that we know for certain. In a disgusting prank made by his oldest son Michael, Afton’s youngest child was brutally killed, his head crushed by the teeth of Fredbear. Perhaps William was fueled by grief after this. Perhaps he simply snapped altogether. Or perhaps it was just the excuse he needed for what came after.
Henry’s only daughter Charlie Emily was found dead outside of a Fazbear establishment. And on the inside of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a man wearing the Spring Bonnie suit lured a group of five children to the backrooms, and none of them were ever seen again. The brand that William and Henry worked so hard to create was slowly falling apart. But before the final days of Freddy’s had been reached, William noticed something. After the disappearances, the robots started to act... strange. As if they were more human than they ever were before. This got Afton’s interest like nothing before. If the souls of children could take a new form within the mechanical... Then perhaps he could uncover the secret of true immortality.
Afton marched forward with passion, creating a new company known as Afton Robotics to fuel his efforts. With advanced animatronics designed to capture children, he learned more and more about the soul, the Remnants of it that bonded with machines upon death. He returned to the old pizzeria and destroyed the old animatronics, taking their broken parts and using them to make new monsters. Everything was going according to plan, and William Afton’s life would soon be eternal!
But the ghosts of the children thought otherwise. Freed from their mechanical prison, they sought to take revenge on their killer. Desperate to survive, unwilling to reach his end, Afton hid back inside the Spring Bonnie suit. Inside, he was safe. Inside, he was a god. Nothing could hurt him, no ghost could haunt him-
But the locks snapped. And William Afton died on the spot, drowning in an ocean of his own blood. Forever trapped in the suit he had used to take the lives of so many others. A fitting end for a monster…
But he came back. He always does. Now reborn as Springtrap, William woke once more. An unstoppable evil, destined to spread agony wherever he goes. Though his actions became far more instinctual, Afton continued to spread pain and death in his new form. Though the pursuit of justice from those he had harmed the most, and one too many buildings catching on fire, would eventually catch up to him. All of his victims, all of the souls he had slaughtered, would eventually find peace. But that fate would never come for him. Trapped in a nightmarish hell created by a Vengeful Spirit, William will forever suffer like he made others suffer. But who knows? Maybe one day he’ll come back once more…
Junko Enoshima
- Full Name: Junko Enoshima
- Aliases: The Mastermind, Monokuma, Ryōko Otanoshi
- Ultimate Talent(s): Analyst, Fashionista, Despair!
- Age: 19
- Birthday: December 24th
- Height: 169 cm / 5’7”
- Weight: 45 kg / 99 lbs
- Crimes: Mass murder, kidnapping, brainwashing, terrorism, torture, abuse, incrimination, stalking, conspiracy, and A LOT MORE.
The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History- a befitting name for the end of the world. A future where all hope is lost, and despair has driven much of humanity to madness. How could such an atrocity come to fruition? Who could have snuffed out the greatest sparks of hope in our time? And how was it all done at the hands of a teenage girl? Such an event was the work of none other than the Ultimate Despair: Junko Enoshima.
Much of Junko’s early life is a mystery, but the moment of her birth is, in Junko’s own mind, a mistake she regretted all her life. Junko possessed one of the greatest talents ever seen- that of the Ultimate Analyst. Junko’s intellect was such that she could predict everything from how entire conversations would play out, to when historical events would occur. As a result, Junko sunk into nihilistic boredom, seeing the world as predictable and unsurprising. The only thing that gave her any stimulation was the inherently unpredictable nature of despair.
Junko joined the illustrious Hope’s Peak Academy- a school dedicated to studying the greatest talents amongst the youth in the name of hope, while using their findings for their own research. During her time there under the guise of the Ultimate Fashionista, Junko would start a domino effect that led to the ruin of not only Hope’s Peak, but soon the entire world.
She murdered her childhood friend Yasuke Matsuda and stole his research into neurology, emotionally manipulated her sister Mukuro Ikusaba to make a pawn out of her in her schemes, leaked Hope’s Peak’s work on the Kamukura Project (a secret experiment to create a person with all talents) to incite backlash against the academy, and slowly made her way through the faculty and security of the school in order to blackmail them, if not send them to an early grave in mass killings and suicides with her sister’s help, garnering her a new title: the Ultimate Despair.
In time, Junko would amass a cult like following, led not only by Mukuro and the result of the Kamukura Project, Izuru Kamukura, but the students of Class 77-B in Hope’s Peak Academy, who would become her most deranged and dangerous generals: the Remnants of Despair. While the world outside of Hope’s Peak’s walls crumbled and burned, Junko and Mukuro stayed under wraps with Class 78 of the school as they boarded themselves in.
Using the knowledge she gained from Yasuke’s neurology research, Junko wiped all memory of the past two years of her fellow students’ lives from their memories. Behind the mask of a remote controlled teddy bear named Monokuma, Junko forced these students into a Killing Game, where they would be made to kill one another and indict the culprit of each murder until only a handful remained. Junko’s goal was to prove the meaninglessness of hope as a concept and drive humanity’s greatest hopes into unending despair through their own actions, even killing a disguised Mukuro in front of them all to prove the severity of their situation.
Junko’s plan would come to a head when backed into a corner by the combined efforts of the Ultimate Lucky Student and Ultimate Detective: Makoto Naegi and Kyoko Kirigiri, along with their fellow survivors. Their final trial would end in defeat for Junko, as Makoto’s hope never faltered in the face of all the horrors she showed them. All Junko could do was laugh in ecstasy, as she lost to an element she never could’ve predicted- luck. Admitting defeat, Junko sentenced herself to execution, leaving the survivors free to walk back out into the ruined world, not only to repair the broken state of the world, but to wipe the rest of Junko’s influence out of it.

Springtrap
Spring Bonnie Suit
Five nights, five innocent lives I took before their time…
William’s trademark as a killer was his usage of the Spring Bonnie suit. Made out of springlock technology, it could switch between “suit mode”, allowing one to wear it as a mascot costume while the animatronic parts are compressed, and “robot mode”, when the gears inside start turning and the endoskeleton is no longer held back. The springlocks that allow this mechanism to function are very sensitive, and the slightest touch or moisture can be enough to trigger them. If one happens to be inside while the process of it changing from suit to robot happens... let's just say it isn't pretty.
Afton used this suit to lure children with the friendly face of Bonnie, taking them to the back before ending their life. After his transformation into Springtrap, he has completely and utterly merged with the suit, the two essentially being one.
Pizza Knife
William’s primary method o’ murder is nothing more fancy than a standard kitchen knife. Hey, whatever gets the job done!
Fire Axe
In Dead by Daylight, Afton has a fire axe that he throws at people to slow them down. Why does he have this? When has he used a fire axe in canon? Who knows, but Scott signed off on this so we know it has to be a somewhat accurate rendition of the character.
This fire axe is rather heavy, allowing it to fly at odd angles and embed itself into its targets, applying both the Oblivious (becomes unaware of Springtrap’s presence) and the Broken (unable to heal) status effects. Once a target is hit, they have to spend an amount of time dislodging the axe from their back. If the axe misses its target, it also projects an aura 2 meters in diameter around it that reveals anybody nearby to him.
Afton only has one axe, but he can recall it back to his hand, even if he misses.
Midnight Motor
A car that William used to drive around before he became a zombie robot rabbit. Great for grabbing some beers to drink and drive, passing by your workplace to stab a child to death, and making an entire community slowly go insane as we constantly argue if the guy with a purple car is the same as the other guy with a purple car because SOMEONE thought it was a good idea to make one guy orange and the other purple, even though basic logic would dictate that yes, this should be William Afton based on the context, why would it be a random dad from the missing children that were never that relevant to this story as individuals, NO I don’t KNOW WHY HE’S ORANGE, it doesn’t MATTER, we’ve been doing this song and dance for nearly EIGHT YEARS NOW and we’re never gonna know what’s GOING ON IN THIS FUCKING MINIGAME
What was I talking about again?
Illusion Discs
One of the most unique pieces of tech that William invented. Based on the idea that the human brain ignores and creates information based on what it already knows in order to avoid sensory overload at every moment, William developed these special sound discs that release multiple sound waves to distract and overwhelm the brain, creating gaps in visual perception that can make those affect by these sound waves see things in a very different light. For example, making some very clearly plastic mannequins look as if they were fully organic monsters.
Remnant Syringe
Afton’s main method of injecting Remnant into other animatronics. Inserting Remnant in this way can greatly enhance machines like Afton’s Funtimes, making them animated without the need for direct spiritual possession, and injecting humans with it directly connects them to the souls of the deceased, allowing one to see and interact with ghosts. More information on Remnant on the abilities section.
Animstealth Module
There are no images of this, have a Venttrap
In one of Fazbear Entertainment’s... stranger marketing stunts, they developed the Fazbear Funtime Service, a rental service where they send animatronics directly to YOUR house! Surely nothing can go wrong from an idea like this! But it turns out a certain older animatronic model started to arrive at customer houses despite not being anywhere in the Service’s database... a vintage Bonnie model- oh hell no HOW IS HE HERE
Through somehow entering the Funtime Service, Springtrap became equipped with some brand new technology that greatly enhances his capabilities. This includes a cloaking device that makes him nearly impossible to detect, with only some lingering static being left behind as a way to spot his location. Springtrap could also generate Interference, creating a large amount of static that makes it even more difficult to pinpoint his exact location. This invisibility also renders him invulnerable to the controlled shocks typically used to stop an animatronic on its tracks, with precise timing being necessary to strike Afton after he uncloaks.
M.O.D.s
After an Animatronic Endoskeleton is upgraded through the use of the Remnant, it becomes possible to equip them with MODs, special chips that can greatly enhance their AI and physical capabilities. MODs can be used to increase Springtrap's speed, make his body suffer less damage from wear and tear and amplify the amount of visual disruption he can generate.
While MODs being applied to Afton is heavily player-reliant and not necessarily something Afton has directly upgraded himself with, it's unclear just how “standard” these amplifications are. But for the sake of being thorough, we will be including them here anyway.
Some of the most relevant MODs include:
- EM Booster: Increases the chances of visual disruption being caused.
- EM Jammer: Makes it harder to clear any visual disruptions.
- Friction Regulator: Boosts an animatronic speed, decreasing the time it takes for one to reach your house by 85%.
- Servo Boosters: Increases an animatronic’s speed while attacking you by 17%.
- Gear Booster: Decreases the time you have to react to an animatronic during haywire by 24%.
- Hydropneumatic Suspension: Decreases the amount of damage suffered from wear and tear by 30%.
Fear Experiment Gas
Deep within his underground bunker, William somehow developed special hallucinogens that spread through gas, which he used to perform experiments to study the effects of fear in children. Through this gas, alongside his observation rooms, he could trap these children in an illusion of their childhood home, preventing them from seeing their surroundings as they truly were, and perceiving things differently from reality, such as making them mistake endoskeletons moved on rails wearing costumes as genuine moving monsters out to get them, and making them mistake freeze-dried wafers for real food without batting an eye.
Why the fuck did William Afton do this
Add-Ons
In Dead by Daylight, various killers acquire a series of items that they may bring into their hunts in the fog. Ranging in rarity, each one provides a unique buff to Springtrap’s kit that gives him a distinct edge in the trials.
- Greasy Paper Plate: Increases the time needed by survivors to dislodge the axe by 15%.
- Help Wanted Ad: While readying his axe to throw, Springtrap sees a guideline that projects the axe’s trajectory.
- Restaurant Menu: Reduces the time needed to retrieve the axe after missing by 20%
- Rotten Pizza: Increases the duration of the axe’s revealing aura by 100%.
- Office Phone: While within 24 meters of a survivor embedded with the axe, they gain the Oblivious status. If they’re Injured, they also gain the Broken status.
- Party Hat: When the fire axe is embedded in the environment, its area of effect is increased by 250% for 3 seconds, but the duration of the area of effect is halved.
- Ripped Curtain: Survivors hit by the Fire Axe are inflicted with Hemorrhage (increases bleeding) and Mangled (increases time needed to heal).
- Security Guard’s Badge: Upon exiting a security door, Springtrap is Undetectable (cannot be sensed) for 50% longer. (More on those later.)
- Streamers: Increases the speed at which Springtrap moves through security doors by 20%.
- Bonnie’s Guitar Strings: While moving between security doors, Springtrap can sense the state of repair of generators. In exchange, his time as Undetectable is halved.
- Chica’s Bib: While survivors are inside the area of effect of Springtrap’s axe, they are inflicted with Exhausted (unable to use special abilities).
- Foxy’s Hook: While within the area of effect of Springtrap’s axe, gain 7% Haste (speed boost), lingering for 3 seconds after leaving the area.
- Freddy’s Hat: Increases the weight of Springtrap’s axe by 100%.
- Purple Guy Drawing: Reveals the aura of survivors who perform rushed actions while they have the axe embedded in them, as well as when they remove the axe themselves.
- Access Panel: Springtrap’s Axe can now be thrown directly through security doors as if they were portals. Additionally, security doors reveal survivors while Springtrap is holding the axe.
- Celebrate! Poster: While embedded with the axe, Springtrap, as well as anybody within 32 meters, gains a 12% Haste boost.
- Endo CPU: While Springtrap is inside the effect of his own axe, his Action speeds increase by 25%, lingering for 5 seconds.
- Lost Bag: When a survivor is embedded with the axe, they cannot leave the trial.
- Faz-Coin: Throwing the axe causes it to emit Springtrap’s own terror radius. Springtrap himself becomes Undetectable for 10 seconds.
- Iridescent Remnant: When traveling through a security door, all upright pallets within 32 meters are blocked for 12 seconds.
Junko Enoshima
Knife
Like ol’ Willy, Junko has brandished a knife on occasion to stab someone plain and simple, as she did to Ultimate Neurologist Yasuke Matsuda. Hey, not everyone needs to be killed in a fancy manner.
Brainwashing Technology
In Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc, Junko was able to blackmail Ryota Mitarai into allowing her to use technology he had built to subtly control the minds of whoever witnessed his art through subliminal audio cues. Junko used this in conjunction with live footage of Ultimate Gamer Chiaki Nanami being slowly and brutally murdered to brainwash the students of Class 77-B and turn them into her Remnants of Despair.
While some victims of this brainwashing such as Aoi Asahina were broken out in a short time, the Remnants required intensive therapy through wiping away their memories and putting them through a simulation programme just to fully break them out of this trance.
This tech isn’t only useful for enslaving their victims, however. It can also cause you to hallucinate the worst and most traumatic moments of your life in order to drive you to suicide. Another mastermind, Kazuo Tengan, got several members of his organisation killed using this exact technology, which nearly included Makoto Naegi when he was subjected to it and hallucinated his murdered friends from his own Killing Game.
Junko A.I
That's right! Junko Enoshima, BACK FROM THE DEAD-
With the help of her Remnants, Junko was able to infect the Neo World Programme- a virtual reality simulation meant to rehabilitate her enslaved Remnants. This A.I gave her incredible control over the NWP, allowing her to spawn in her teddy bear persona Monokuma to torment the inhabitants of the programme, and eventually manifest herself in the form of a giant avatar of herself to interact with the participants of her Killing Game.
The A.I demonstrated immense control over this virtual world- changing the weather on command, rewriting the rules of the simulation, taking and giving back memories of her captives as she pleased, hijacking the cameras to have everyone in her sights at all times, mass producing 10^60 Monokumas and counting, or even causing the simulation to collapse into a mess of coding.
In Danganronpa If, this A.I was even set up for practical use in the real world. The Junko A.I can control Monokumas when not manually under the use of the real Junko, giving her more flexibility in how she can use several hundreds of robots at once.
The Junko A.I acts exactly one to one like the real Junko, even in spite of it being introduced after her death in the previous Killing Game. Her unmatched intellect and predictions were recaptured flawlessly.
Guns
Junko has kept the students of Class 78 in check with various kinds of firearms. The main kind she has used directly comes in the form of mounted turrets that she fired at the students in Danganronpa If, but her teddy bear persona has also carried around semi-automatics and bazookas in the past.
Executions
Junko’s ultimate punishment for murderous students. Junko has utilised a variety of methods of maiming and killing the victims of the Killing Game behind the guise of Monokuma.
Blast-Off!
Used to execute Hope’s Peak’s headmaster Jin Kirigiri, Junko can stuff someone inside a rocket that blasts off (teehee) into outer space before crashing back down to the ground below. When used on its victim in game, the only thing left inside after the impact was a pile of bones.
Spears of Gungnir
Used to execute Junko’s own sister Mukuro, she can summon a barrage of spears to pierce her foe’s flesh and skewer them like a pincushion at unexpected speeds.
The 1,000 Blows
Used to execute Ultimate Baseball Star Leon Kuwata, Junko uses pitching machines to belt an unfortunate victim with rapidfire baseballs until they’re beaten beyond recognition.
The Cage of Death
Used to execute Ultimate Biker Gang Leader Mondo Owada, Junko straps someone to a motorcycle that drives inside an electrified cage at such high speeds, that her victim literally melts into a butter-like substance... which then gets served with pancakes. Nom-nom.
Burning of the Versailles Witch
Used to execute the Ultimate Gambler Celestia Ludenberg, Junko burns someone at the stake in an intense flurry of fire... before ramming into them at top speeds with a firetruck.
Excavator Destroyer
Used to execute the Alter Ego A.I of the Ultimate Programmer Chihiro Fujisaki, Junko controls an excavator to savagely beat and crush whoever is underneath it at blistering speeds until they’re flat as a doormat.
After School Lesson
Used to execute the Ultimate Lucky Student Makoto Naegi, or Ultimate Detective Kyoko Kirigiri, Junko traps her victim in a school desk that’s slowly transported towards a crusher to flatten them into paste.
The Ultimate Punishment
Used on Junko herself, the Ultimate Punishment is a lightning round of every previous execution one after the other. Junko endured the entire gauntlet of executions up until being crushed to death via the After School Lesson.
Abilities
Springtrap
Remnant/Agony
Like most things in Five Nights at Freddy’s, possession and ghosts end up being a bit more complicated than it really should be. Souls that fail to move on to the afterlife end up clinging on to strong memories and emotions they experienced in life, with some emotions tied to specific objects allowing them to serve as a storage for the soul. That is the basic premise behind Remnant, the spiritual breathing life into the inorganic. Afton studied the effects of Remnant for most of his life, and discovered that by exposing metal to extremely high temperatures, he could extract and pass Remnant from one source to the next, which he believed could grant him immortality within the mechanical. But even he had not yet understood the greatest power of Remnant until after he passed on.
Like mentioned, it is a strong emotion that fuels Remnant. Feelings of love, feelings of grief and rage have all allowed for various objects to come to life in different situations. But the single most powerful emotion of all is Agony. The Agony left behind by the deceased can infect objects with incredible ease, and can spread far more than any other kind of Remnant. Objects that were present near the site of a tragedy will all eventually become tainted by Agony. And it is this emotion that fuels all of Afton’s more absurd supernatural abilities.
Revenant Physiology
jesus fucking christ
Thanks to all the Remnant and Agony that William has flowing around, and due to being a professional corpse for 30 years, he's not really... well, human anymore. And yeah, it's hard to even say what exactly he's supposed to be nowadays, but it's definitely something far beyond what he once used to be.
As Springtrap, William possesses superhuman strength and speed, as well as what he's most known for, an absurd level of durability. The guy not only had his entire insides crushed and pierced, but he's also been stabbed, shot, burned alive, and more, only to walk it off and keep on trucking. It's as he says, he always comes back.
Possession
The most important ability Remnant can bestow. As long as a spirit is tied to strong emotions like Agony and continues to cling to life, they will be able to remain “alive” through possessing inanimate objects. Of course, souls tied to objects are only as mobile as the object they’re tied to, so it’s a great thing that William’s soul is tied to a perfectly working animatronic endoskeleton that can freely move just as well as a human being! Additionally, spirits with a high concentration of Agony like Andrew have shown to be able to possess several objects at once and even connect to another soul rather than something fully inanimate, the latter of which was directly replicated by Afton once his own body exploded.
While it is extremely difficult to purge Remnant in its entirety, there are some known ways to end this possession. First is to simply completely destroy the objects infected with Agony or that serve as residence for the soul, though that leaves it open for other nearby objects to get infected. Extreme temperatures have been shown to be able to remove Agony from other sources, but spirits like Afton have resisted such flames in the past. And finally, forcing the spirit to re-experience a happy memory can weaken the effect of their negative emotions and remove them from whatever they are possessing, effectively freeing them and ending the spread of evil.
Fear Instillation
The presence of the supernatural is more than what most people can bear. Being nearby ghosts that contain high levels of Agony, like Andrew or Afton, has shown to be enough to make others lose their strength and be unable to stand.
Hallucinations
Somehow, Springtrap can casually mess with your mind just by standing there. In What We Found, a retelling of Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, Afton shows the ability of manifesting the voice of people from night guard Hudson’s past, the voices coming directly from within his mind and forcing him to remember traumatic memories. Afton also causes Hudson to re-experience entire events from his childhood, mostly involving him getting his shit rocked by bullies, and the damage dealt in those hallucinations stuck with him afterwards.
Soul Corruption
Afton has the ability to leave behind parts of his evil and connect them to other souls. In his confrontation against Detective Larson, he stabbed through the officer and infected him with his soul, which became a poison that would fill Larson with Afton’s evil... and then kill him.
Corrosive Shocks
William’s Agony is so great that when he possessed the Stitchwraith endoskeleton and had access to electricity from a battery, his touch alone could cause a shock so deadly it could annihilate one’s consciousness through convulsions and excruciating pain, all while simultaneously withering their body to a state where it appears mummified.
Telekinesis/Technopathy
After becoming Springtrap in the novels, William claims full control over the systems that link the animatronics together for the sake of choreography, allowing him to command every single move made by the Fazbear animatronics. He also managed to control some cables in order to restrain one of his victims in his state, but nothing compares to what William achieves in Fazbear Frights.
William, in a weakened state, created a telekinetic pull that could drag in all machinery present in a junkyard, including entire animatronic bodies, towards him, forming a massive amalgamation of metal pieces and parts completely under Afton’s control. In an attempt to defeat him, the detective Larson attempted to ram Afton with a forklift, only for the forklift to similarly be dragged towards Afton and merged with his body.
Phantom Animatronics
(We are going to beat you to death)
In Five Nights at Freddy's 3, Springtrap displays the uncanny ability to manifest hallucinations of animatronics from two previous Fazbear locations, appearing in the form of burnt and mangled remnants (teehee) of themselves.
While these hallucinations don't do much to you physically, they provide a perfect distraction for Afton to make his move and completely disorient and horrify whoever is on the receiving end of a nasty jumpscare.
Despite not being real, all of the Phantom Animatronics are capable of causing technology to malfunction after startling their victim. Handy tool for someone under constant surveillance by an underpaid security guard.
Phantom Freddy
Phantom Freddy is a hallucination in the image of Withered Freddy. He initially doesn't do much more than limp on by but stare at him too long and he'll duck out of view and get right up in your face for a nasty surprise. If you think I'm talking about the jumpscare, nope! He disables the ventilation in the building. What a guy.
Phantom Chica
Phantom Chica is a hallucination in the image of Chica. Her favourite hiding spot before giving you the fright of your life is on a screen but regardless, look at her for too long and she'll come to haunt you... and disable the ventilation too. No breathing allowed.
Phantom Foxy
Phantom Foxy is a hallucination in the image of Foxy. Unlike his fellow phantoms, you don't need to look at Foxy to give him a reason to come at you. Befitting the aggressive nature of his inspiration, Phantom Foxy will often appear on a whim to startle you... and also disable the ventilation, these guys just do not like the thought of you being able to breathe.
Phantom Mangle
(She’s been decapitated holy shit)
Phantom Mangle is a hallucination in the image of Mangle. Unlike the other hallucinations, Mangle isn't interested in giving you respiratory problems. Instead, being exposed to this animatronic causes an ear piercing screech to play that destroys your audio tech.
Phantom Balloon Boy
Phantom Balloon Boy is a hallucination in the image of Balloon Boy. Like with many of his fellow hallucinations, look at him the wrong way for too long and he'll appear before you to strike fear into your heart and disable the ventilation what do these guys HAVE AGAINST THIS THING-
Phantom Puppet
Phantom Puppet (also known as Phantom Marionette) is a hallucination in the image of the Puppet. When looked at for two long, this phantom will appear in front of you and continually haunt you for ten full seconds, leaving you completely helpless and afraid... and unable to breathe because take a guess what they disable.
Fazbear’s Fright
"The Animatronic lived to kill, even when his mechanical costume became his tomb."
The fire axe wasn’t the only boon granted to Afton upon his entry into Dead by Daylight; in fact, it’s merely half of his abilities. The jam to its peanut butter takes the form of seven Security Doors that scatter themselves around the map.
Upon interacting with one of these security doors, Afton can waltz inside, revealing a spectral realm reminiscent of the Fazbear brand’s locations. Passing through this space is as simple as selecting a door to exit from; Afton takes a brief stroll through this pocket dimension and pops out the other door.
All doors also have security cameras installed, but Afton himself cannot utilize them.
Perks
In addition to his main abilities, Springtrap also came with three Perks, or unlockable abilities that provide a more general modification to gameplay. While any killer can theoretically equip the perks of any other killer with enough Prestige, we’ll only be covering the ones brought forth by Springtrap himself, as they are the only ones that he would defaultly have access to.
- Haywire: For some reason, machinery has a habit of failing when Springtrap is near. Whenever a Survivor stops opening an Exit Gate after accumulating at least 50 % Progression towards being opened, Haywire causes it to regress at a rate of 50 % of the normal Gate-Opening speed.
- Help Wanted: Try as they might, Springtrap knows how to stay one step ahead of his guests. After performing the Damage Generator action, Help Wanted activates and causes that Generator to become a Compromised Generator. Once the Compromised Generator is completed, he increases the Recovery speed of successful Basic Attacks by 25% for 1 minute.
- Phantom Fear: Springtrap have always had a reputation for startling unsuspecting guests. Whenever a Survivor within his Terror Radius looks at him, they scream and reveal their Aura for 2 seconds. Phantom Fear has a cool-down of 1 minute.

Ultimate Talents
As a student at Hope’s Peak Academy, Junko has been recognised as exceptionally gifted in an area of expertise- as they call it, a talent. Whereas most of Hope’s Peak’s colourful cast only possesses one Ultimate Talent, Junko has multiple exceptional talents that she’s developed in her time under the school’s tutelage.
Ultimate Despair
As her primary talent, Junko’s ability to spread despair like a plague is unrivalled. No matter how optimistic or joyful you may be, Junko can break your spirit with minimal effort thanks to her nihilistic cunning and ability to identify weaknesses in a victim’s psyche. She has the innate ability to also sense hope and despair like a beacon, such as when she sensed the potential for hope within Makoto Naegi and Ryota Mitarai.
Ultimate Analyst
Junko’s analytical abilities are supercomputer-esque, allowing her to form complex plans in short time frames and read her enemies like a book. By her own admission, she can think of 20,264 ways to subject a target to the worst despair imaginable. Even while under the effects of anterograde amnesia (a form of amnesia preventing the brain from making new memories), she could outsmart the Ultimate Bodyguard Isshiki Madarai with only a notepad to help her keep track of things. Madarai struggled to keep up with or catch her despite Junko not even looking at him during the entire chase.
Junko being able to analyse with minimal information is kept consistent in Danganronpa 3, where she immediately pinpointed Ryota Mitarai as someone instrumental to her plans just by passing him by, despite not even knowing about his brainwashing technology yet. She can predict your exact thoughts and actions with perfect accuracy, as well as events yet to pass as though she looked ahead in a script for the universe.
Her intelligence and charisma was such that she was able to play all of Hope’s Peak into her hands and manipulate them behind the scenes without ever truly being caught until the ending of her Killing Game, as well as prey on the trauma of many of her constituents in order to turn them to her side. Her downfall only came due to the combination of unbreakable hope and ultimate luck of Makoto Naegi. Most before him were merely unknowing pawns in her game.
Ultimate Fashionista
Junko usually masquerades as a fashionista while staying undercover through using her analysis to predict the popular trends. Though not normally a combat ability, where this does come in handy is her ability to disguise others in her image. She turned her sister Mukuro into her exact doppelganger to fool her fellow students into thinking Mukuro was her during the Killing Game.
Also look at THE DRIP OF THIS WOMAN
Ultimate Programmer
While not as proficient a programmer as the actual Ultimate Programmer, Chihiro Fujisaki, Junko learned in record time from his work how to utilise technology with frightening efficiency. Not only was she able to modify Ryota’s brainwashing tech for her own benefit, she created an entire A.I alter ego of herself to invade the Neo World Programme- an entire virtual world.
Ultimate Neurologist
Similar to her programming, Junko quickly learned from studying the works of the Ultimate Neurologist Yasuke Matsuda how to manipulate one’s memories. Yasuke had previously used this on Junko to wipe her memories and make her into an entirely new person (Ryoko Otonashi), but she had since weaponised his neurology skills for her own means.
Junko deleted all memory of the past two years of her classmates’ lives, and in Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc, forcibly brainwashed the students of Class 77-B and transformed them into the Remnants of Despair- her most loyal and despair fueled followers.
She’s even made use of technology that can alter a person’s personality or suppress their memories, such as when she introduced the Despair Disease to the Neo World Programme that forced their victims’ personalities to become their polar opposites, and made the Ultimate Nurse Mikan Tsumiki remember her status as a Remnant of Despair and completely lose her mind (which I’m totally not still traumatised by at all (take a guess who wrote this bit)).

Springtrap
Circus Baby
An animatronic crafted by Afton Robotics, Circus Baby was a machine made for entertainment and joy for all ages. She can dance, she can sing! She’s equipped with a built-in helium tank for inflating balloons right at her fingertips. She can take song requests. She can even dispense ice-cream.
She also might lure kids out with ice cream and then use a mechanical claw to snatch and kill them, which happened to none other than Afton’s own daughter Elizabeth and led to her haunting the robot... oops. But turns out that that was better for Afton than even he could have guessed, because baby girl Elizabeth was completely devoted to making daddy proud.
Endoskeletons
The bare endoskeleton that controls each animatronic. Though they come in multiple variants across multiple locations, the most notable under Afton's watch are the Endo-01 models used for the classic animatronics, and the more advanced Endo-02 used for the withered animatronics, as well as a few of their toy variants. Despite being out of costume, they are fully autonomous and can move freely on their own.
Balloon Boys
Evil incarnate.
A strange humanoid animatronic from the 87 location. Through unknown means, this thing can disable a night guard's flashlight just by standing there, somehow, but hey at least it's just one of them, and he doesn't even attack!
In the novels though, Afton has an entire horde of Balloon Boys, combining them with sound illusions to create an overwhelming sensation as all of them begin to shift into looking even more like human kids. A perfect distraction.
Twisted Animatronics
(That’s sick and twisted)
(...wait that second one isn't Chica-)
Appearing in the novel The Twisted Ones, the twisted animatronics were designed to lure out their prey and kill them. Using their Illusion Discs, they can emit high-pitched audio to distort their victims’ perception and make them see these abominations as something different and most foul depending on their memories. The Twisted Ones are strong enough to easily break through walls, and can contain people within their stomachs in order to bring them back to Afton if necessary.
Junko Enoshima
Mukuro Ikusaba
The Ultimate Soldier and Junko’s older sister. Mukuro was said to have never been so much as wounded in the battlefields of war, and she’s skilled and strong enough to contend not only with the best of her fellow Ultimates, but even an onslaught of Monokumas controlled by Junko herself. Despite her skill and experience, her biggest flaw comes in the form of her emotional dependency on Junko, who takes advantage of this to manipulate her into doing her bidding, which led to her canon death when Junko executed her without prior warning.
Monokuma
Junko’s own robotic puppet, Monokuma spends much of the Killing Game torturing the students while Junko controls him remotely behind the scenes. While Junko typically only uses one, she can control multiple Monokumas at once, like in Danganronpa If where she controlled multiple of them to get the jump on Mukuro.
Monokuma has claws sharp enough to slice through metal like tofu and quick enough to appear in two places at once. He can even fly through the air at high speeds and self-destruct if needs be. He’s so deadly, even the most physically capable of students like the Ultimate Martial Artist Sakura Ogami are lucky just to match him in a serious fight.
In order to keep his captive at bay, Monokuma is also outfitted with a self-destruct feature that will fry anyone that attempts to attack him. The bomb inside him can be neutralised with good enough accuracy, but good luck hitting him to begin with.
Monokuma Units
Mass produced Monokumas created by one of Junko’s followers, Monaca Towa. While none of them individually are as fast or strong as the real deal and share a common weak point in their red eyes, the Monokuma units make up for their lesser physicality or cognitive functions with raw numbers and variety.
Siren Monokumas
A Monokuma unit with the same viciousness as their standard counterparts, but with a siren on their head that can attract the attention of other machines... usually each other when hacked.
Beast Monokumas
Beastly Monokuma units that fight and act like feral dogs. They’re faster ground units than their contemporaries that like to ambush targets and slice into them with their vicious claws and teeth.
Ball Monokumas
A larger variant of the Monokuma units that can retract their arms to roll up into a ball and charge their targets. These Monokuma units are also able to vomit up trash to attack someone at long range.
Bomber Monokumas
A variant outfitted like a member of a bomb squad. The Bomber Monokumas do exactly what they say on the tin- attacking by launching timed explosives at a target. If they’re knocked down, however, they’re prone to spilling their bombs all over the place and blowing everyone around them up.
Junk Monokumas
A more disturbed variant of the Monokuma Units, Junk Monokumas are significantly tougher than the standard versions. They crawl around like spiders to jump their opponents, with much more defense than their contemporaries.
Guard Monokumas
A more defense oriented variant, these guys used a riot shield to protect themselves or other units against attacks.
Destroyer Monokumas
Monokuma units outfitted with special gear to fly around their environments at high speeds. They utilise guns to fire at targets from a long distance, making them ideal offensive units.

Scaling
Springtrap
Classic Era Animatronics
As a human, William Afton was able to effortlessly dismantle Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, all without much difficulty. This was described as overpowering them by Henry. The Twisted Ones, who are subservient to Afton, share similar base models as the Classics and were able to fight them, albeit briefly. Suffice to say, Afton should clear these four by a decent margin.
Most other animatronics from this era and before, such as the Toys, the Rockstars, and the Nightmares, should all reasonably be on a similar echelon of power.
- Bonnie can rip apart metal bathroom stalls
- Foxy can create cracks in metal doors just by pounding on them with “the force of a sledgehammer”.
- Twisted Freddy smashed through a wall and tanked gunfire. (6.8 megajoules)
- The Twisted Animatronics bury themselves underground and then re-emerge at night, destroying the ground above them. (9.2 - 23.1 megajoules)
- A few of the Twisted Animatronics survived being ignited in a large pool of gasoline. (1.46 Tons of TNT)
Steel Wool Era Animatronics
While the animatronics present after the events of FFPS do not have many direct ties to the previous era of the franchise, there is nothing that indicates that these models are particularly stronger than the previous ones, especially when considering factors such as Remnant. The Blob, an amalgamation of Pre-Pizzaplex animatronics and the logical endpoint of what once was Molten Freddy, was able to quickly subdue Burntrap in Security Breach’s secret ending, further adding credence to this claim. The Mimic, a robot that is still active in the present day and is currently the primary antagonist, was actually made well before the Classics and was likely an inspiration for their endoskeletons, meaning they would be built similarly regardless.
- Monty can shatter chain links, and Glamrock Freddy can do the same when given his claws.
- Monty caught a massive bucket of golf balls and held it up until the ground gave out beneath him. (19.4 Tons of TNT)
- The Mimic is made from pure tungsten, allowing it to survive getting hit by a car.
- The Mimic, as Nurse Dollie, survived being dropped in a furnace and covered with molten metal.
- The Mimic was stated to move within a nanosecond (See Before the verdicts)
Misc. Animatronics
These are animatronics/groups that do not fit into any clean category, but should still realistically be comparable to or weaker than Afton.
- All animatronics in Pizzeria Simulator have the potential to break 100 bones in a child’s body
- All animatronics in Special Delivery can rush the player when ordered with quick delivery (118.9 m/s)
Dead by Daylight Killers
All Dead by Daylight killers are portrayed as being relatively equal in power, as they all struggle about the same against the survivors. The version of Springtrap used in Dead by Daylight was taken directly after being springlocked, meaning that all of the things Afton did as Springtrap would have been things he would have been capable of right from the start. While we’re fine with scaling him to feats that are regularly performed within the confines of Dead by Daylight or in the pasts of its original killers, we’re not going to be cross-scaling him with other crossover killers. So no Complex Multi through Vecna scaling. Sorry!
While it’s important to note that the Entity can, and has, buffed and nerfed certain killers in order to make them work better in the Fog, this ultimately really comes into effect in terms of certain powers. The only surefire answer for a killer that is heavily affected is Vecna, through the Mark of Negation, but others should not be noticeably different from their pre-Fog renditions, at least in regards to the original killers.
- All killers can, with varying levels of ease...
- Break palettes and have palettes dropped on them. (6.9 megajoules)
- Damage generators.
- Bust through wooden doors.
- Attack survivors hard enough to leave them prone in 1-2 hits.
- The Wraith ripped a man’s spine out of his body.
- The Oni...
- The Ghoul (Ken Kaneki) created several craters and a large hole in the floor. (0.03 Tons of TNT)
- The Singularity...
- Possesses “ten times the strength” of an average person.
- Can dodge gunfire from near-point blank range. (Mach 1.07)
- Experienced an epiphany and read “decillions of lines of code” in the space of a nanosecond (2.0013342e+33 times the speed of light) (See Before the verdicts)
Junko Enoshima
Quick note: not everything listed here are things that Junko herself might scale to, but rather the heights of her machinery. Please see the BTVs for more information.
Toko Fukawa / Genocide Jack
The Ultimate Writing Prodigy / Ultimate Serial Killer, and a student of Hope’s Peak’s Class 78th. While Toko is timid, off putting, and generally a car wreck of a human being, all it takes is a sneeze to shift her into her dual personality, who’s much more brash and capable. Toko survived Junko’s killing game and went on to fight her hordes of Monokuma alongside Komaru Naegi, meaning that her troops should reasonably be able to withstand her output.
- Tagged Hannibal X, who could dodge Komaru’s lightspeed EM bullets. (Mach 143,500)
- Sliced several missiles in a short time frame. (Mach 2.6)
- Defeated and took hits from the Big Bang Monokuma, which can split clouds. (174 Kilotons of TNT)
Sakura Ogami
The Ultimate Martial Artist, and a student of Hope’s Peak’s Class 78th. Befitting her nickname of the Ogre, Sakura is regarded as one of the strongest humans in the world, and is one of the only students throughout the entire series to be able to fight evenly with the Monokuma model holding each student hostage in every game.
- Stopped a jet powered car, and later crushed a robot, with her bare hands.
- Is capable of clearing a 500km distance “instantaneously”. (Mach 1,457 - Mach 112,133)
Nekomaru Nidai
The Ultimate Team Manager, a student of Class 77-B, and all around chad, Nekomaru is frequently portrayed as one of the strongest members of Danganronpa’s cast (I mean duh, look at the guy). In spite of that though, he was no match for Monokuma’s strength... or his bazooka.
- Caused this explosion. (0.4 Tons of TNT)
- Destroyed a classroom as a byproduct of a sparring match.
- Annihilated a restroom by shitting really hard. (95 Tons of TNT)
- Got in front of a bazooka after it was fired. (230 m/s / Mach 0.6)
Weaknesses
Springtrap
Oh he dead dead
As Afton is stuck inside of an animatronic made for entertainment, he can be easily distracted and lured in by sound cues similar to the voices of children.
While Afton is undoubtedly intelligent, he also suffers from a severe case of tunnel vision as a result of his insanity and god complex. In several iterations of the story, his death via the springlock failures was partly a result of his ego getting in the way of his judgement and making him think he was in the clear as long as he was in his suit... right before he got skewered like a pork roast by said suit.
Afton’s insane invulnerability is also not without its limits. Afton’s soul is tied so strongly to Remnant due to strong emotions and memories, so targeting either of those can weaken those ties. An example of this is seen in the FNAF 3 mini game Happiest Day, where the souls of several of Afton's victims are able to pass on peacefully through experiencing happy memories.
Junko Enoshima
oh she dead dead
Despite her immense cunning and intelligence, Junko’s biggest weakness is, ironically, her own obsession with despair. Junko has no qualms sabotaging her own plans if it’ll leave her feeling immense despair, whether that be killing or maiming her own supporters or family like Mukuro, or straight up throwing herself into an execution. Kyoko was able to use this against her by forcing her to play by her own rules when Junko tried to remove Makoto from the Killing Game.
Junko’s analysis also has its limits. She cannot predict that which is inherently unpredictable, hence why Makoto was able to defeat her since she couldn’t plan around his immense luck. Plus, while her intelligence remains incredible, she is completely vulnerable to her mind or memories being tampered with. She assumed a completely new identity in Danganronpa 0 because her memories were completely wiped and she couldn’t form new ones, and in Danganronpa 3 she was affected by Ryota’s brainwashing technology. While neither of these ultimately lasted, they could still affect her again if used against her.
Summary

- Ultimate Despair could make her the perfect source of Agony for Springtrap to exploit
- Has shown no notable resistances to any of Springtrap’s biggest hax abilities
- Is not in Dead by Daylight... yet
- Danganronpa 3
- Bottom tier sister
Before the verdicts
(Grab a snack, we might be here a while)
Glitchtrap and Burntrap
Alright.
After Ultimate Custom Night, Afton’s story was believed to have completely ended. However, with the release of FNAF Help Wanted, it seemed like our favorite child murderer had found a way to return once more as Glitchtrap, a digital recreation of Afton back during the MCI, a malicious virus infecting not just VR games, but people’s minds as well! In addition, in FNAF Security Breach, Afton himself makes an appearance in his brand new form, Burntrap! So why weren’t those anywhere in the blog?
The Five Nights at Freddy’s series has an awful habit of barely providing clear storytelling to its audience, which leads to many making theories and assumptions about what’s actually going on. We assumed Glitchtrap and Burntrap were Afton when their games came out, because we had nothing that really pointed us elsewhere. But with later releases, it’s clear that they aren’t intended to be William himself at this point, if they ever were. Burntrap was, according to Scott himself, never meant to have a major role in Security Breach and only appear as a hallucination, and has all but completely been retconned into the new antagonist, The Mimic. In a similar manner, Glitchtrap is currently trapped in canon limbo where we have no idea what the actual intent for it in the story is, but it’s most likely a manifestation of the Mimic rather than Afton.
For those reasons (and despite AI Junko vs Glitchtrap sounding like an awesome idea for a fight) we have decided to not include either of these Afton “forms” in the blog.
THE BOOKS
While the Five Nights At Freddy's started off as just a series of SIMPLE and EASY TO UNDERSTAND games, Scott Cawthon was getting a lot of money, so he decided to also make a lot of books of... varying quality.
First of all, we have the original novel trilogy. The Silver Eyes, The Twisted One and the Fourth Closet, telling the story of Charlie Emily and her own journey through the nightmares of Freddy's. According to Scott Cawthon himself, while he considers these books “canon”, they weren't meant to fit in alongside the puzzle pieces of the games to form a clear picture. However, the amount of shared concepts between the two sources, as well as information like the name William Afton being passed from the books to the games, means we can take a look at Afton in these stories and what he can achieve, as it should be possible for the Game William to do the same.
And then things get really messy.
FAZBEAR FRIGHTS.
If the original novels were separate puzzle pieces that could form a similar picture, Fazbear Frights is jumbling together five completely separate puzzles, throwing them all in the same box, and forcing you to figure out which piece belongs where.
For those unfamiliar, the Fazbear Fights is a series of books that each contain three short stories plus some end of book stingers that make up a main overarching narrative revolving around the animatronic endoskeleton known as the Stitchwraith. Some of these stories are directly connected to the games and are meant to help provide answers. Some of them have absolutely nothing to do with the games. We have absolutely no clarification on which is which. Thank you, Scott Cawthon.
William Afton plays a role as the main antagonist of the Stitchwraith storyline, so it and all stories connected to it were taken into account for the sake of this blog. This includes stories such as The Man in Room 1280 and Fetch, and does NOT include stories like In The Flesh. I know you freaks will be asking about it.
Storm Shenanigans
On the topic of Fazbear Frights, there’s one particularly infamous incident from those short stories that’s evolved towards achieving memetic status. We’d be remiss to not at least acknowledge it.
In the story titled Blackbird, a boy named Nole is prompted to recollect his time in primary school bullying a girl for her appearance. After revealing this secret to his school partner, he begins to experience some paranormal activities; a creature he made up for a school project, a Blackbird animatronic inspired by Freddy’s and the works of Poe, starts leaving feathers all around his usual areas. He begins to get wracked with nightmares and hallucinations of the Blackbird, until a confrontation in his bedroom reveals that his guilt over his past bullying has manifested Blackbird into reality.
Along with a massive wave of black clouds, thirty five miles across, that follow it.
Upon finally coming to terms with his actions and delivering a heartfelt apology, the storm clouds dissipate and Blackbird vanishes, though it’s insinuated to always be a creeping threat in the back of Nole’s mind. He talks with his friend about it, they laugh, and go get pizza.
Okay, yeah, so that’s just a blatant storm creation feat, right??? Depending on how you calc it, this particular showing can net anywhere from Large Town to Large Island, based on factors such as clouds used, dispersal speeds, etc. Not only would this be a massive buff for the franchise as a whole, not only would this not just lessen but completely surpass the power gap between Springtrap and Junko, but it would also connote William Afton, also known as Springtrap, being several thousands of times stronger than characters such as Spider-Man, Satoru Gojo, and probably thousands of others that, without this one feat, would floor him in a single punch.
While this would be incredibly funny to take at absolute face value (and trust us, we’ve tried), ultimately there are some things that just have to be called outliers, as much as that word has lost meaning over time. A Town level feat has no right existing in a franchise as comparatively grounded as Five Nights at Freddy’s, and unless more feats of similar strength come along to support it it’s hard to take it as fact in good conscience without sounding like a premium-grade glazer.
If you want to buy it for the agenda, go for it! We’re not going to burn your house down or anything for it. Just... understand what exactly you’re backing.
Springtrap’s Fire “Weakness”
While the canon media time after time implies that high heat is a definitive counter to Remnant-fueled beings, Afton’s mere existence is unliving, walking proof that this sentiment isn’t universally applicable. Most famously, he stayed inside Fazbear Fright as it burned to the ground, emerging relatively unharmed. In addition, there have been several animatronics that have survived being superheated, such as the Twisted Ones. The Mimic was able to survive being covered in molten slag, which burns at around 2,600 °F, and Springtrap has a skin in Special Delivery that’s literally just him but on fire, and he’s perfectly fine in that.
Even if Remnant is weak to fire, Afton and others have proven that building an immunity to it is not just possible but a norm in the verse. The greater the Agony, the greater the heat needed to disperse it, I guess! Somebody throw this man into the sun. Let’s see him shrug that off.
Point being, you’d need something a lot hotter than regular fire to melt through Afton’s remnant. Flamethrowers probably wouldn’t cut it.
The Afton Amalgamation and Outside Help
As explained before, during the climax of the Fazbear Frights story, Afton takes on a form known as Afton’s Amalgamation or Agony. A very common argument against it being usable is that he could only achieve this form through the assistance of the entity known as Eleanor, and that this form cannot be reached without her help. Even with the format we chose to use for Afton, giving him the machines and creatures under his command, Eleanor still sticks out like a sore thumb. We know very little about her other than her presumably being an entity of pure Agony, and she has nothing to do with Afton’s schemes directly, their connection during Frights being entirely unexplored.
So this is outside help, right? Afton can’t use these powers in a standard scenario? Well, that’s a hard maybe.
While it is undeniable that Afton had the support of Eleanor during his time as Agony, it is also pointed out on multiple occasions that Afton is severely weakened at that time, his soul barely being able to cling on to life. Afton also doesn’t use any of the abilities he displayed in What We Found, a story where he is clearly in a much less weakened state, implying that at his best, he has the ability to utilize various supernatural powers without any assistance.
While it is unclear just how much of the Amalgamation is Afton and how much is Eleanor, a hypothetical “peak” Afton should likely be able to recreate and use the abilities presented by the Amalgamation on his own.
The Nanosecond Brothers
You got jumpscared by that big ass number in the scaling section and immediately came down here to read about it, didn’t you? I know what you are. We have two potentially FTL speed feats to talk about here for Afton, which is two more than I would’ve expected!
Firstly, the elephant in the room: The Singularity. While it did, in fact, read decillions of lines of code in a fraction of a second, that much is inarguable, converting that number into straight-up speed is a bit disingenuous. While Hux can process information fast, we have no evidence that says that its motor functions can operate at similar speeds. Knowing that something is about to hit you is one thing; that’s what perception speed is. But reaction speed, which is arguably much more important, is what allows you to stop the thing from hitting you. Since the Singularity never reacts at similar speeds, as far as we can tell, this is something exclusive to it and, as such, is inapplicable to any and all other killers, including Springtrap.
Secondly, the Mimic. While this is a more direct statement of movement within a nanosecond, and it lines up with the short story’s recurring repetition of units of time, I feel it’s a bit of a stretch to take this phrasing entirely literally. It’s far more likely that “nanosecond” is being used as a buzzword for an incredibly fast speed, rather than its literal definition. FTL speeds for animatronics would be funny, but with this as the only supporting evidence I can’t really accept it in good faith.
FNAF WORLD?!?!?
No.
Long story short, FNaF World does not take place within the main canonical world of FNaF. Most people theorize that it’s a haunted arcade cabinet, making it a fictional game within the FNaF universe and not applicable towards Springtrap’s real life stats.
Junko in Danganronpa 2 & V3
Danganronpa 2 Junko is a bit of an odd duck. As has been previously mentioned throughout this blog, the big twist of DR2 is that it takes place inside a virtual simulation, and that Monokuma and by extension, Junko are A.Is implanted into it by the Remnants to set up a new Killing Game.
Since the events of DR2 were technically not… “real” real, and the Junko A.I was active long after the real Junko died, much of what we see her do in this game is largely unusable in a Vs context. This would include the executions seen throughout the game, which vary in terms of how realistically the real Junko could replicate them even if she did have them as an idea. Launching someone into space on a rocket? That’s something we’ve seen her do before so not that out there. Sending tanks and Pac-Man avatars after people before crushing them with Tetris blocks? Probably not so much.
The Junko A.I should still be capable of executing (teehee) any of what she’s been shown to do in the game. How much of what she can do in the NWP that the real Junko can replicate in the real world and by extension, a fight, is the part that’s questionable.
The more pressing of the two games to discuss though is Danganronpa V3. V3’s narrative gets incredibly meta and doesn’t so much bend the rules as it does fold them into a pretzel, so how much of the events of the game can be taken at face value is largely up to your own interpretation. What we can say with absolute certainty though is that the events of V3 do not pertain to Junko’s own abilities… at all.
Depending on what you choose to believe, Junko in this game is either long dead or not even real to begin with, at least not within this game’s narrative. Monokuma in this story is not controlled by Junko at all, so the executions he carries out throughout the game would not be something taken from her wheelhouse. An argument could be made for the executions in this game taking after existing ones that might’ve appeared in an unseen Killing Game, given Blast Off! Second Ignition is a direct repeat of an execution from the first game, and the host of V3’s Killing Game being obsessed with the history of Danganronpa as a franchise, but this leans too much into headcanon to be reasonably worth including. No other execution is labeled as being a reuse in the same way Blast Off! was, so there’s no actual evidence to support this claim.
Danganronpa S/Ultimate Talent Development Plan
Ultimate Talent Development Plan is a side game unlocked after finishing the main story of V3. Simply put, it’s a minigame where you get to see the cast interact outside of the series’ trademark mortal peril and level them up on a game board in order to bring them into Monokuma’s Dungeon: a traditional dungeon crawler. Danganronpa S is essentially just that, but expanded into a whole game. In both games, you spend accumulated experience points to increase your characters’ stats and give them special abilities, ranging from physical attacks, healing abilities and magic spells… y’know, as you’d expect from this series.
Danganronpa S is very blatantly not usable here. The entire game takes place within the Neo World Programme, which acts very differently than it does in Danganronpa 2 given it isn’t being used as a rehabilitation programme- it’s just treated as a fun virtual hangout spot. Ultimate Talent Development Plan doesn’t have any sort of canon explanation behind it like S does, but it likewise isn’t exactly… usable. The obvious problem is that the existence of JRPG style magic and monsters is completely out of the realm of DR’s world, and given it’s disconnection from the main story, there’s no doubt it isn’t supposed to be seriously taken as canon. These events being able to occur could be chalked up to the same circumstances as in S, or it could just be a fun offshoot of V3’s twist around Danganronpa being a seasonal game show.
THE BOOKS 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO
A variety of novels have been released diving into the larger world of Danganronpa. Most relevant to this blog are Danganronpa 0 (a prequel novel set before the events of the first game) and Danganronpa If (a what if scenario where Mukuro survives Junko attempting to kill her). So, are these canon? Well… that’s a bit complicated.
Danganronpa 0 is extremely weird in terms of its canonicity. It was written expressly to explore the events that led up to the tragedy that kickstarted the first game’s plot and explains a lot of why the world fell to ruin and more importantly, why Junko is the way she is. The problem comes in with how it’s not the only prequel story to show what happened prior to the first game.
Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc shows us the exact same general premise, and is unambiguously treated as canon as it is referenced directly in the game that preceded it, V3. Despair Arc hits a lot of similar beats but it also outright contradicts events seen throughout DR0, even including the presence of characters that couldn’t have been there in DR3’s telling of events, such as Ryoko Otonashi… who is Junko’s amnesiac alternate identity. Even Yasuke appears in this story in a cameo despite never interacting with Junko in this iteration.
Despite all this, the creator of Danganronpa, Kazutaka Kodaka, does consider this novel to be connected to the mainline story, even with all of the contradictions in later retellings of this narrative. At worst, 0 or 3’s events could be considered an alternate scenario that could’ve possibly played out over the other one, so we can tentatively say it should be usable for this blog.
Danganronpa If is on a thinner tightrope, however. The story it presents explicitly does not occur within the mainline story of DR, what with its premise revolving around Mukuro surviving and freeing everyone from Junko’s Killing Game. By all accounts, it isn’t canon to the main timeline.
However, If doesn’t introduce any contradictory elements to its cast or premise prior to where it branches off into its own thing. In fact, the inciting incident for the entire plot was Makoto’s luck simply landing him an item that slowly breaks him out of his amnesia and makes him remember Mukuro. While it might not be “canon”, it’s still a story that could have played out within the rules of the mainline entries if events lined up properly. As such, it should also be usable.
Other less relevant novels that are still worth noting would be the Kirigiri and Togami series, which follow the titular characters from Trigger Happy Havoc prior to the Tragedy that lead into the story of Trigger Happy Havoc. These similarly are treated as canon explorations of the series’ events and are thus usable.
Junko's weird ass scaling
One of the weirdest aspects about Danganronpa in VS has to do with the physical attributes of the Ultimate students. Only a handful of them are actual combatants, so logic dictates that they would be the only ones that would be physically capable of some of the more extreme feats throughout the series, and you would be mostly right about that.
Characters such as Mukuro, Toko, Sakura, Izuru, Akane, Peko or Nekomaru are usually the ones behind the best displays of physical strength, endurance or speed throughout Danganronpa’s story, given that their talents all pertain to being at peak human condition. So logically, you might assume that Junko, not being particularly athletic in the same vein as them, would not scale outside of her own robots. This would be a fair assumption...
...and then Komaru Naegi happened.
Ultra Despair Girls is easily the most action centric entry in Danganronpa, save for maybe the Future Arc of Danganronpa 3, which is still largely consistent in portraying strong characters as strong and average characters as average. Komaru is where a massive wrench gets thrown into the mix.
In the story, Komaru is just a teenage girl. She isn’t supposed to be physically superhuman like the aforementioned examples, including her partner throughout the game, Toko. Sure, Komaru fights Toko and wins in Chapter 4 of UDG but it’s made clear Toko was holding back immensely given she didn’t want to fight Komaru. If Toko really wanted Komaru gone, she’d be wearing her like a pelt by now.
Even with all of this in mind however, consider the following. Komaru could still keep up with robots such as Hannibal X, who could dodge her hacking gun’s EM waves (ie. light speed bullets). Komaru could still take a beating from robots as big as skyscrapers, and heavy enough to part clouds. Komaru could still get back up after being pelted with explosives from enemies as common as Bomber Monokumas and as advanced as the Black Suspirian. Komaru could still defeat robots more dangerous than the most iconic antagonist of the whole franchise, who terrorises the entire rest of the cast and fights the most elite students to a standstill: Monokuma.
As a reminder, Komaru is supposed to be completely and thoroughly average. She is not special like any of the aforementioned examples. As a result, Komaru’s existence turns Danganronpa into a bizarre Ouroboros of power tiering, where unremarkable, if not outright frail characters can somehow still scale to light timers and kilotons of TNT. How much stock should you put into this scaling wise, especially from a narrative perspective? Your mileage may vary heavily on that.
Executions (and are they standard?)
While executions are a core staple of the Danganronpa series and are undeniably things associated with Junko’s ability to kill, their inclusion ultimately raises the question of “how the hell would she use them in a fight?” Most of the time, executions are prepared in advance and installed at the site of the killing game, making it cumbersome at best and impossible at worst to have them on-hand for a confrontation. Unless the fight specifically takes place at Hope’s Peak (or some other killing game site), it would be unreliable to rely on these executions for arsenal purposes, right?
Although they’re few and far between, there are some instances of executions being portable. Most notably, Mondo’s execution was hijacked during the events of Danganronpa IF, giving Mondo a sweet new ride as he mowed through hordes of Monokumas. Most of Monokuma’s executions in THH, funnily enough, are vehicles; the rocket, the motorcycle, the fire truck, and the excavator. Theoretically, those could be piloted by Monokumas and taken elsewhere if the situation called for it.
More permanent installments, like The 1000 Blows, are harder to justify, however.
Can Junko exorcise ghosts?
Danganronpa plays incredibly fast and loose with the idea of supernatural entities existing. In Trigger Happy Havoc, the idea of ghosts or even cryptids such as aliens being real is routinely written off as insane ramblings, namely at the expense of the supremely paranoid Ultimate Fortune Teller, Yasuhiro Hagakure. In Ultra Despair Girls, however... it gets really weird.
In Chapter 5 of the game, Komaru and Toko end up hitting a roadblock while exploring Towa Tower due to a retinal scan that only the former head of Towa Group, Tokuichi Towa, can open. Their solution? Grab the former head’s... well, head, and bring it over to scan. It’s during this that Komaru ends up being possessed by the disembodied spirit of Tokuichi Towa and begins muttering some bizarre ramblings about the history of Towa Group and the game’s central antagonist, Monaca. After some time, Toko inexplicably exorcises the ghost from Komaru and they proceed on as normal.
Why do ghosts suddenly exist now and how did Toko know exactly how to exorcise it? There’s no explanation given. They just do and she just can. Seeing as how Junko is obviously leaps and bounds smarter than Toko, this theoretically could be something she’d think to do and replicate seeing as how Toko didn’t need anything more than her own two hands and a few words to do so, but given how hard it contradicts an aspect of Trigger Happy Havoc and this entire sequence being long after Junko dies... your mileage may vary heavily if this is something she realistically would do.
(Granted, due to the weird nature of Remnant, this likely wouldn’t be effective on Afton in particular, but it’s worth acknowledging regardless.)
Monokuma's “Manga Abilities”
One of the several DR mangas, specifically Small Danganronpa 1 • 2 Light, has Monokuma showcase some... let's say wackier abilities than he usually does. Things like growing to the size of buildings, instantly transporting people across locations, hypnotising others, and creating freaking black holes. Obviously, these abilities would grant Junko an incredible advantage in this debate, so why didn't we cover them?
Small Danganronpa 1 • 2 Light is a gag manga. It's not canon, does not pretend to be canon, and is very obviously not in tone or spirit with the mainline series... at all. Even if it was something we'd have to analyse, Monokuma utilises none of these abilities for combat at all (without exception of hypnosis, but in the grand scheme that ability is largely useless here), and the supposed uber powerful black hole power isn't even shown on screen, it's just something he threatens someone with. So yeah, a little hard to take seriously.

Never ask me to read the FNAF books ever again
NIGHT 1: AFTON VS JUNKO
Our first question is the simplest one. If Springtrap was just dropped in front of Junko, no Monokumas in sight, and they started throwing hands, who’d win? And well this is where we reach my first hot take
I don’t think Junko Enoshima is a faster than light city buster and I do think it is kind of stupid to assume that she is
I haven’t seen any real arguments for Junko being physically on par with Mukuro and Sakura and while Komaru does have some good feats of her own… I feel like people forget the definition of outlier sometimes. We can understand and ignore that someone like Spider-Man surviving hits from planet busters clearly aren’t meant to be indicators of his actual toughness and should be ignored, but when a character whose whole deal is to be an average normal human does feats beyond most of the superhuman cast it’s completely fine? Come on guys. Do note, this is just my opinion, you’re fine to call Junko Boundless for all I care as long as you’re not an asshole about it.
So in a direct confrontation, Afton takes the win. Junko has no feats of physicality that let her properly keep up, and combined with Afton’s various abilities unrelated to his arsenal (such as his incredibly potent hallucinations), she just wouldn’t get a chance to take him out.
NIGHT 2: THE MONOKUMAS + CAN AFTON REACH JUNKO
Of Course, it's extremely unlikely for Afton to be face to face with Junko from the very start. It's far more likely for Junko to sit back at her funky room and play keepaway by throwing all of her shit at Afton. So the question now becomes one of Can Afton Close The Gap?
At a glance the answer would probably be yes. Afton's supernatural powers would make it extremely difficult for Junko to keep track of him, and between his hallucinations, being able to fuck with tech like cameras, and his small horde of animatronics all having various forms of creating illusions to distract Junko further, it's easy to assume that Afton could catch Junko off guard and reach her.
However there is the massive issue of the Monokumas. In terms of raw strength and speed, these funky bears can easily dismantle any robot William tries to use as a distraction and scale so overwhelmingly higher than William that there's nothing he can do to overpower them in any way.
If it comes to blows, a Monokuma could easily smash William to the ground and potentially crush his chances of winning.
NIGHT 3: Does Afton have a way around the Monokuma Units?
But if we know anything about William Afton, it’s that he is obnoxiously hard to put down, so simply being overwhelmingly stronger isn't enough to seal the deal. But while Afton would probably never be able to destroy a Monokuma Unit, is there a way for him to get through them without needing to?
Surprisingly, the answer is yes. Afton has been shown to infect other things with his Agony or through Remnant, and would likely be able to take the Monokumas under his control without much hassle. Even outside of that, Afton could telekinetically pull in the Monokumas and add their parts to his body to make himself even tougher, upgrading his durability to the point of being able to withstand their normal attacks. This doesn’t just apply to the funny bears, any tech that Junko uses on this guy is very likely going to backfire in some way.
NIGHT 4: but Mukuro though
It would be disingenuous to ignore her considering we mentioned her in the support segment so here’s the Metal Sonic of this matchup, the hard carrier doing most of the heavy lifting, Mukuro fuckinggggg Ikusaba! Unlike Junko, there’s more than enough reason to believe that Mukuro physically scales to powerhouses like Sakura and Toko, and she doesn’t heavily rely on tech like her sister, so she should just stomp this bunny bastard into the dirt!
Indeed, Mukuro is easily the most reliable path to victory for Miss Enoshima here. She brings an edge that Junko simply does not have by herself and, given the proper equipment, could very well destroy the Spring Bonnie suit entirely, ending Springtrap for good.
But not ending William Afton.
NIGHT 5: Does Junko have a way past Remnant Possession?
On Junko’s end, the biggest hurdle that she has to overcome to win the fight is getting past Afton’s comical survivability, which is directly tied to Remnant and its ability to possess… fucking anything at this point. To solve this I needed to analyze just how Remnant was fully dispelled across the multiple fnaf continuities.
We all know that Afton died in the fnaf 6 fire, unless that gets retconned later. While that is a pivotal moment in the story, context matters a lot here. The primary reason why this worked was due to Henry burning down the entire building with the intent of leaving behind not a single trace, likely intending to make it completely impossible for any of the spirits present there to find any objects to continue latching onto. This is why it worked as a method of putting William down (if you don’t buy stitchline which I DON’T so fuck that).
The other, far more consistent method of making spirits pass on, is by making them experience happy memories, or by confining a spirit to eternally lay inside one. Essentially you need to be able to make a spirit live through a memory so strongly that they completely let go of any attachment to the real world.
So could Junko do that? Possibly. For method 1 she’d just have to know to destroy the entire area the battle is taking place at while also leaving behind nothing at all that Afton could latch his soul onto and keep the fight going, which would be extremely difficult without the proper setup but not undoable. Do note, however, that if you do actually take the Dead by Daylight stuff seriously this maybe would not work because they made Afton able to fucking teleport??? For some reason??? Though that is obviously reduced to his Security Doors and again, Dead by Daylight isn’t being taken into account in this verdict.
Method 2 is more complicated, but it’s entirely possible for Junko to do it through use of the brainwash videos and her skills as the Ultimate Neurologist. Of course that would require her coming up with a memory strong enough to trap Afton’s soul inside of permanently as well as finding a way to use it in the middle of being chased down by Afton.
It’s also important to remember that supernatural elements that work like this are pretty foreign to Danganronpa. Even if Junko discovers that Afton is a ghost it’s far more likely that she would resort to exorcisms or purifying salt, neither of which have ever been shown to be effective on Remnant.
So essentially, Junko does have ways to overcome Afton’s immortality, but it would be incredibly difficult for her to properly utilize them in battle without a ton of setting up and planning.
It’s very likely for Junko to be able to come up with a strategy against Afton through her Ultimate Analysis, before anyone asks, but between the complete unknown that is Afton’s supernatural nature and Afton’s various methods of causing illusions (one of which being directly stated to overstimulate the brain which sounds pretty important when using your brain well is your main wincon), I don’t think it’s that sure fire of a smoking gun to let her take the win here.
Despair comes in many forms, but this time the shape of Agony has reigned supreme. Afton’s sheer immortality, somehow superior battlefield control and stupid book bullshit gave him the Ultimate victory.
The winner is William Afton, the Springtrap.

I knew my 2,096 page Google Doc on Danganronpa would come in clutch
Junko, meanwhile, is another story. Basic Monokuma units could swiftly fly into space and disperse cloud formations with relative ease, and the main Monokuma model and other supports like Mukuro trounce even that. Do I think Junko herself should be comparable to this? Probably not, but as you’ll see the further we get into this, that’s not gonna matter very much.
Speaking of supports, that’s another point in Junko’s favour. Junko’s list of backups lay complete waste to any of Afton’s merry men. The Twisted Animatronics have some cool tricks up their sleeves that could cause problems (which we’ll go into more later) but otherwise, nothing out of them, the Endoskeletons or other animatronics Afton has on speed dial are matching the strength and speed of Monokuma or Mukuro. This is all ignoring the tiny, insignificant problem of Junko also having hundreds of these bastards online. If this came down to pure brawn, then Junko would fold Afton like a crepe.
But, this isn’t just about the stats (because why would it be so simple). There’s also the abilities and resistances to look at, and in this regard, Junko doesn’t get so much outmatched as she does completely curb stomped down a long flight of stairs. Does Junko have some useful tools and traits? Yes! Her brainwashing technology, the Junko A.I and some of her Ultimate Talents such as Despair and Neurologist are definitely handy. But y’know what’s also really handy?
Phantoms that can disrupt technology if you witness them. A cloaking device that makes you invisible to the naked eye. Gas that can mess up your perception of reality. Straight up possession. SOUL CORRUPTION AND POISONING. TECHNOMANCY THAT LETS HIM MOVE MACHINES LIKE HE HAS THE FORCE. MOTHERFUCKING REMNANT!
Remnant alone is a colossal hurdle for Junko. It’s a molten substance that Afton’s soul is grafted to, and if that gets on a machine like say, Monokuma… bad shit happens. While this isn’t gonna help much against a non-mobile machine like one of the executions, against an animatronic, this essentially means Afton can just get his gut juices all over Monokuma and spread the love around like a paranormal disease as he possesses each and every one of them. When Springtrap says he always comes back, he isn’t goddamn kidding. Brute force is just a one way ticket to death’s door, with Afton telling you to send his regards to the devil.
None of this is helped by Agony in particular being the most effective form of Remnant possible, and objects that have incredible amounts of torment surrounding them are coated head to toe in Agony… you see the problem with this from the perspective of the Ultimate Despair, right? One Monokuma or execution method is gonna be jam packed with Agony for Afton to feed off of like a Hungry, Hungry Hippo. It’s not as though the Monokuma units can just continually evade and zone out Afton when he can just move them telekinetically too.
Sooooooo… what does Junko do about this then? Stat-stomping isn’t gonna do Junko any good if Afton will just keep surviving so long as there’s autonomous machinery for him to possess. You might fairly think “hey, he died to an intense fire in series. That should work”, well tough news, it probably wouldn’t. The fire vulnerability of Remnant is incredibly inconsistent throughout the series and later iterations have shown animatronics walking off heat as intense as molten metal too many times for me to think that’s a reliable out. When Junko’s main fire options don’t even have the heat to instantly incinerate a normal person at the centre of it, then it’s probably not hot enough to severely affect Remnant.
Even the Junko A.I gets a bit stumped here. Sure, Afton’s normal hacking and tech disrupting methods are not gonna be effective against the A.I- it took over a simulation as detailed and intensive as the Neo World Programme, Afton controlling an animatronic network from the 80s is not up to snuff with that. While the A.I is extremely useful for keeping the fight going if Junko herself goes down, however, it can’t really do much about Springtrap just outright possessing the Monokuma units. That isn’t something that’s ever had to be dealt with in Danganronpa, especially not in this form.
So… is that it then? Is Junko completely out of options? Does Afton just barrel through every Monokuma until he reaches Junko herself and then kills her in one of a million different ways that Junko has no defense against? Unfortunately…
for Afton, I think she does!
Remnant cannot be overstated for how unkillable it makes Afton normally, but it does have an Achilles’ heel: Memories! As we’ve seen in Five Nights At Freddy’s 3 via the Happiest Day minigame, those whose souls are tied to Agony can be released from it through experiencing memories that relieve them of the agony or grief that keeps them tied to Remnant, thus allowing them to pass on peacefully. Theoretically, this could also extend to the re-experiencing of other memories that overwhelm those emotions or even the removal of memories that are responsible for them.
So… I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Junko might have a fondness for messing with people’s heads. It’s not like nearly every major character in the entire goddamn franchise has had their memories wiped or tampered with… and nearly all of those were Junko’s doing. And this isn’t a super long process like you might assume. The brainwashing technology she uses in Danganronpa 3 (ugh) has been repeatedly shown to work with minimal exposure, and breaking out of it is a no-go too. The only time we’ve seen someone recover from this in any way quickly was with Aoi, but that was done off screen without much explanation and can likely be chalked up to the fact that she was exposed to it for a very brief amount of time, probably just enough to buy Mitarai more time in the scene in question. In short, if Junko subjects Afton to a brainwashing video, it’s gonna mess him up immediately.
That’s all well and good but now, you may have a lot of questions about this. Not unfoundedly, it isn’t nearly as straightforward as it sounds, so let’s go through all of what I imagine to be the likeliest rebuttals or questions you may be wondering.
- Would Junko Enoshima even think to do this at all?
Junko’s Ultimate Analyst talent obviously puts her leagues ahead of Afton in terms of intellect and planning ability but would she be able to even identify this weakness in Remnant? Don’t forget, Junko’s predictions aren’t completely limitless. Having borderline precognition and being able to read her opponents like a book as soon as she meets them is undeniably huge but to say she would instantly understand Remnant and Springtrap’s more lucrative abilities as soon as she sees them is the textbook definition of a No Limits Fallacy. Junko isn’t going to immediately identify everything about Springtrap when most of what Springtrap can do doesn’t even exist in the world of Danganronpa…
except, memory manipulation and brainwashing does exist in Danganronpa. The key weakness of Remnant is something Junko not only has tons of experience with, but can and has identified without even knowing it exists. Don’t forget, Junko pinpointed Mitarai having what was necessary for her plans just by walking past him. Mitarai’s brainwashing technology was not something most, if any people even knew about. And no matter how well hidden, Junko’s ability to pinpoint weaknesses is a key reason she was able to bring Hope’s Peak to its knees and kill so many of its students. She hasn’t exploited a weakness as out there as this before, sure, but she has all the tools she needs to do it, it’s something she’s done repeatedly throughout Danganronpa. So I would say that yes, Junko could pinpoint that this is the method she needs to win.
- Would Junko Enoshima actually subject Springtrap to a happy memory?
This is definitely a fair thing to question. Junko loves, more than anything, making people suffer and wallow in despair. She is willing to give up and sabotage her plans if it means more despair to go around. Logistically speaking, there’s no reason she should actively try to make Afton experience the joys of life so he can pass on peacefully. How is that suffering, there’s no pain or agony, just happy memories from when Afton wasn’t a bastard?!
However, Junko isn’t above going against her own obsession with despair just for the sake of reaching her end goal. And I’m not talking about some scene that misses the point of her character and contradicts what Junko is all about that I wouldn’t even acknowledge outside of winning a debate. I’m talking about a major moment from the very game that Junko comes from.
In Chapter 5 of Trigger Happy Havoc, Junko frames Makoto for the murder of her sister, Mukuro, in order to unfairly execute him. Makoto only survives because Alter Ego Chihiro was able to stop his execution and save him in time. Kyoko later calls Monokuma out for this, saying that they were trying to cheat in their own killing game. This is the entire reason the final trial is even able to take place, so Junko can prove her philosophy on despair correct through honest means.
So… if Junko is so obsessed with despair that she would willingly sabotage herself over it, why didn’t she do so here? This more than likely is partly the fact that, at the end of the day, losing the Killing Game at all would bring the most despair to the class, especially at a point where they refused to continue participating, but the fact that Junko was so bound to causing honest suffering that Kyoko could use it against her still means that… yeah, Junko absolutely can just do the thing that could net her the win if she believes it will. And hey, maybe, if you really think about it, Afton no longer harbouring such a lust for murder and passing on peacefully, as Junko loses someone that could finally make her feel something, would be the greatest despair she could imagine…
Yeah that’s just me headcanoning, I wouldn’t seriously argue that last part but my point remains. I do believe if it would give Junko the win, Springtrap can’t just hope and pray Junko decides not to do it solely because she’s too petty to do so.
It doesn't even necessarily have to be a straight up happy memory, that's just the method we know most unambiguously works. Theoretically speaking, just overwriting, if not outright deleting whatever memories lets Afton stay tied to Remnant via his emotions should do the trick. Or failing that, Junko could simply leave Afton in a state of mind where he can't even fight back and thus, incapacitate him.
- Can Junko Enoshoma even get this off before Springtrap reaches her?
Another fair question to ask. When Springtrap has so many tools and options that would otherwise spell disaster for Junko, it should be impossible for her to pull this off before Springtrap can. So, here comes the part where I argue that to not be the case.
You might have forgotten since I’ve gone nearly 1,400 words without mentioning it, but Junko’s machines are leaps and goddamn bounds faster than Springtrap. His technopathy means he’ll never have trouble catching them, but they’ll similarly never have trouble catching him. Remember, Junko’s brainwashing tech isn’t some fancy lobotomising machine or complicated device: it’s just audio. Monokuma could do a live reading of Diary of a Wimpy Kid near Springtrap and so long as the underlying audio cues are mixed in, then she’s golden.
The fact it comes in the form of audio makes it surprisingly tricky for Afton to really even work around. Animstealth by all accounts is incredibly useful to sneak under Junko’s radar, but it doesn’t make Afton go deaf. There’s still hundreds of machines he has to destroy or maneuver around before they can start singing Wonderwall so hard, Springtrap loses the will to kill. Even with Springtrap’s great crowd control, the time it would take to squad wipe EVERY machine Junko can throw at him that could play the audio is simply too much when we know this technology takes very little time to take effect.
It would be remiss of me to ignore, however, Springtrap’s tools that would similarly mess Junko up severely, including his very own take on this win condition: the Illusion Discs. These do much of the same thing as Junko’s brainwashing technology, using audio to completely screw your mind over, just instead of straight up brainwashing you, it makes you severely hallucinate. Not as immediate an instant loss but still a borderline instant loss nonetheless. Monokuma may be leagues faster but that’s in terms of movement speed. Sound is still sound, it’s not like Monokuma is screaming at relativistic speeds.
This is where Junko’s main method of engaging an enemy plays very favourably for her, however. Junko virtually never fights on the front lines, she always tries to stay as hidden as possible and keeps contingency plans around for if she does go down, such as the Junko A.I. Afton isn’t an idiot, he got away with his crimes for so long for a reason, but compared to Junko, he has a significantly more one-track mind. He does put himself out there far more for the simple joy of killing people up close and personal. It makes for a great villain, but it also means Afton is putting himself out in the open to get yelled at by a mind controlling Monokuma far more than Junko is against a Twisted Animatronic for instance. At the end of the day, audio is audio and Junko is still going to hear it. It just means she’s going to be in significantly less immediate danger.
Eliminating anything that Springtrap needs to be up close to use, he isn’t completely out of options still. The Phantom Animatronics can mess with Junko’s tech just from her looking at them, and even looking directly at Springtrap can cause hallucinations. For the former, sure the Phantoms can be annoying for Junko since she can’t really hide from them, but we’ve never seen them disrupt tech to an irreparable degree for even a minimum wage security guard, let alone an expert programmer with a sentient A.I of herself. And on that note, even if Junko herself is put out of commission by any of the above, including the hallucinations from looking at Springtrap, the Junko A.I controlling Monokumas means Junko essentially has a second wind to get the brainwashing off before Afton can retaliate.
To further drive this point home, Junko still has options at her disposal to stall for time against Springtrap in the meantime. She can temporarily deal with possessed Monokumas via remote self-destruct- not a permanent solution obviously, but one that could slow down Afton’s rate of infection if she can remove additional vectors. And if you want to include other Monokuma unit variants, Sirens can act as distractions for the animatronics or possessed Monokumas. This can backfire if the Siren Monokumas get possessed but that’s still time wasted.
Rambling aside, my point is this. Springtrap has similar tools that he can pull out in a quick draw and likely even get off first, but the two combatants’ fighting styles means that the consequences for Springtrap being exposed to it are a lot more severe than with Junko, who not only won’t put herself out where Afton can immediately attack her, but has a backup plan if she’s left completely open.
- Is this Junko Enoshima’s only method of winning?
I feel by now, this should hopefully make it clear that Junko’s Ultimate Neurologist talent is a very valid win condition, but just to make things as clear as possible, we might as well cover if Junko has anything else that can beat Springtrap.
Obviously most of Junko’s executions are just pure blunt force instruments that won’t do much to help against Afton, least of all if he hacks or possesses them. The Cage of Death melting its victim into butter seems like it would be useful but don’t forget, animatronics have gotten back up from being dunked in molten metal. Even the Cage of Death didn’t melt the motorcycle used to execute its victim in series, so even if Afton just let Junko do this to him (considering it takes a pretty lengthy amount of time to reach the energy needed for melting), he’d likely be fine afterwards. We’ve also already covered Burning of the Versailles Witch earlier and why that likely wouldn’t be able to affect Afton.
Ironically enough, Junko’s best option is narrowed down to the very first execution of the entire franchise: Blast-Off! Just send Springtrap barreling into space as far away as possible from the fight and boom, now she doesn’t have to deal with Springtrap anymore.
It’s not that simple, obviously. Executions have been shown to be vulnerable to hacking as Alter Ego Chihiro has demonstrated before, but remember. That also means the Junko A.I could hack it, and as mentioned earlier, that’s a far more effective hacker than Afton alone. Springtrap could spill Remnant all over the rocket and possess it but… what then? Rockets aren’t exactly known for being the most maneuverable forms of transportation and it only takes a few seconds for one to reach space. By that point, Springtrap is probably already a popsicle in space, assuming it doesn’t just crash in the middle of nowhere where he can’t continue the fight.
So let’s summarise.
Do I think Springtrap can win this fight? Absolutely, 100%. I’ve rambled on and on throughout this verdict but that’s because I think there’s a lot of question marks that’ll be raised saying Springtrap is borderline immortal and Junko can counter that. At the end of the day, Springtrap’s win conditions are many and they are effective. If he catches Junko and deals with all of her tech (which for all of the arguments I’ve been making, is still a possibility), she’s as good as dead. Junko is not surviving having her soul corrupted or poisoned or just being possessed outright.
Here’s my thinking, however. Springtrap wins this fight when he plows through every single piece of usable technology Junko has via the Junko A.I and finds her to finish her off. Junko wins this fight when she plays an mp3 file. The fact she can pinpoint Springtrap’s biggest weakness and is so prepared to exploit it, I feel, is a win condition that is significantly more likely to matter than Springtrap’s when factoring in the characters themselves. Springtrap, for all his accomplishments and smarts, is still a brute. He loves murdering people where he can see them, and his win conditions primarily relying on him muscling his way through Junko’s forces is a testament to that. Junko is a super genius whose intellect is literally the reason the world of Danganronpa experienced the apocalypse, without anyone realising until well after it was too late that she did it. One is a serial killer that terrorised a local population, the other is a hyper intelligent monster that brought the entire planet to ruin.
In the end, though Springtrap’s frightening immortality, horrifying survivability and haunting arsenal made him a nightmare to take down, Junko’s startling speed, nihilistic intellect, mortifying numbers advantage, and scarily perfect counters is what makes me give her my vote. I suppose slow and steady doesn’t always win the race.
Five nights out of five, there won’t be a Remnant of Afton left to despair over.
Now please never let me waffle on like this ever again.

And, of course, by “business” I mean this matchup where saying you like it publicly will either get your dick sucked or your head on a stake. Depends on the crowd you’re rocking with.
Stats are incredibly clear cut in Junko’s favor. While, physically speaking, she pales in comparison to Afton’s greater scaling, things end up shifting her way the nanosecond the Monokuma units (and Mukuro, to an extent) get involved. While 20 tons of TNT and Mach 3 are pretty formidable, and honestly a lot higher than I expected going into this research period and re-examination of Afton’s feats, it’s not beating the Big Bang Monokuma’s output and the heavily consistent light-speed reactions shared by the Danganronpa cast.
For reference, that’s an 8938 times advantage in strength and durability, and a 48669 times speed advantage. It’s not surprising to see that Afton is utterly cooked in that regard.
But that raises an important question. Yes, while Junko herself may not be able to immediately react to Afton, her machines certainly can. They can move autonomously without her as a pilot, and they wouldn’t waste any time turning Afton into scrap metal.
…and then what?
Unlike the Monokumas, Afton is far more than a machine. He’s a spirit, something that Junko hasn’t had any experience with, likely meaning her Ultimate Analysis would fail to adjust to the situation in time before Afton reveals his hand.
Whenever an object infected with Agony is destroyed, the Agony binds itself to a nearby object. And, luckily for Afton, there’s a fuckton of those lying around. If Afton abandons ship on his original body and hijacks a Monokuma, the stat gap is suddenly evened out entirely. While Afton is still outnumbered in this form, he still has means to mitigate that advantage and turn the tide into a disastrous turn of events for Junko.
First of all, when it comes to dealing with the Monokuma army itself, Afton has plenty of means to infect, manipulate, and decommission the Monokumas without needing to directly harm them. Afton’s Amalgamation, as well as other showings of his in base, show a heightened proficiency in technopathy and telekinesis in regards to machinery, letting him passively pick up and absorb any troops that might be nearby. This passive ability has a massive range (about the size of a junkyard), meaning that any and all of Junko’s troops that require to get within a large area of him in order to do damage effectively have no way to close the gap. While Junko does have long range options within her repertoire, it likely wouldn’t be enough raw firepower to deal with the exponentially increasing black hole of corrupted technology amassing around Springtrap’s Agony.
While Afton’s more illusion-based hax possibly would fail to achieve anything on the Monokumas, due to their mechanical nature and honed observation abilities, they’d absolutely work on Junko. Her presence on the battlefield could be effectively mitigated as long as she’s surrounded by illusion discs and phantoms, which would be a pretty easy scenario for Afton to set up once he gets the Monokuma ball rolling. She’d be left fighting demons while Afton tears through her forces.
Mukuro might be an issue, since she isn’t rendered useless by Afton’s technopathy. She’s taken down hordes of Monokumas before, but never in such a concentrated mass. And, due to her human physiology, she’d be bombarded with the same illusions that Junko would be feeling, diluting her senses and opening her up for an easy kill.
But that does raise an interesting question. How exactly does Afton kill Mukuro? Or Junko, for that matter, if you believe she scales to the high end feats? While possessing a Monokuma would likely be enough raw firepower to match or surpass their durability, he could always still soul poison one of them on a touch, infecting them with a sickness they’ve never combatted before and leaving them to eventually fester and die.
And, despite their best efforts, even if Junko were to somehow deal with the entirety of her own army, and it’s back to just a one on one showdown… she has no way to kill Afton permanently. Spirits are something she just doesn’t have a counter to, since all of her interactions and dealings with spirits are either in non-canon party modes, happened decades after her death, or are one-off unelaborated gag moments that she wasn’t even present for. And, even then, the nature of Remnant makes it hard to even discern if traditional exorcism methods would even work on Afton.
Junko has no win conditions. Afton has a few, although they take time to pull off. And, given the raw materials at his disposal and the unvanquishable nature of his existence, I see no reason why Springtrap would fail to inevitably take her down, along with her forces.
I’d make a witty one liner, but I’m tired. See you around.
What’s the next blog?
ReplyDeleteHoly shit how the hell are you people convinced william has access to fnaf A R equipment? Where is junkos bat or grenade or exploding wallet or her book feats of durability and strength? And why does anyone thing william can just instantly posses or infect anyone and resurrect endlessly he can't do jack shit lmao
ReplyDeleteHere's a question for you? Why are you so mean on every blog you comment on? Are you trying to bring your own Despair to the makers of this blog? Be better, dude.
DeleteI am asking a question
DeleteHe does not have technopathy
ReplyDeleteHe was always the mimic
ReplyDeleteVery few fnaf powerscaling things actually follow the logic of the series so this one already is like… very good. There’s a few things I think arent entirely accurate… which Ill go over. But largely this is very solid
ReplyDeleteFirst off is Afton’s control over electronics. In Frights specifically that ability only applies to items his soul is in, since his soul followed Andrew. It’s only because the trash contained a piece of him he was able to control that, as well as that ability only working post moterm
Next in immortality
Afton doesnt really have that. In fact he wouldve died without Andrew in FFPS. Afton, while durable thanks to the constant agony of being in springtrap, still has a beating heart, and if he dies without an external force to cling to (ie: Eleanor or Andrew) his soul is likely to just fizzle out
Ultimately he’s kinda fucked by virtue of being in a universe where he doesnt have to go up against very strong people. He relies on the projection of fear and power which is very useful when your victims are children and nightguards
Not so much when they have actual firepower
That aside this is just cause Im a big nerd this was actually very well put together
Man, Oswald here is seriously crashing out. Kind of pathetic if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteShut up anonymous
DeleteNah, man, let him cook. Anonymous spitting facts.
DeleteGreat blog! Even if I disagree with the result, it’s clear a lot of effort and passion was poured into this. That being said, there is something I would like to say regarding Monokuma. I’m not entirely sure how relevant or useful it is, considering Springtrap’s tech manip is supernatural in nature. But I figured there’s no harm in sharing:
ReplyDeleteExtraordinarily intelligent programmers, such as Chihiro and Miu, have failed at hacking Monokuma in the past. Monokuma himself has also boasted that it would take NASA-grade scientists years to figure him out.
If that wasn’t enough, Shirokuma and Kurokuma, main Monokuma units in disguise, resist hacking entirely. While Shirokuma seemingly dies from the hacking gun, it’s revealed he was only putting on an act at the end of UDG. He likely self-destructed himself to cause despair to those around them. Kurokuma is also not bothered by the hacking gun during his boss fight. It only destroyed the mech connected to him, which isn’t as nearly as complex as he is.
Even if Monokuma gets hacked, he should be comparable to the most rudimentary units available, which have backup code that restore them to their default state after only a few minutes pass.
At least you have the decency to RESPECTFULLY disagree, unlike that Oswald prick.
DeleteShut up macedaace
DeleteAfton’s best showings of tech manipulation are circumstantial at best, and become far less impressive when given proper context. Notably, while he was able to claim full control over the twisted animatronics, this required him linking to a preexisting choreography system first.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Afton amalgam, forming it required multiple prerequisites that would be extremely difficult to pull off in direct combat. First off, as the spirit follows the flesh in FNaF, Afton’s soul automatically becomes trapped inside whatever physical object he’s possessing, and can only leave if it gets destroyed completely. One key reason he could form the amalgam was because his body had been destroyed, allowing his soul to escape and possess a new object.
Second off, the trash he was manipulating contained a piece of his soul, which meant he could freely control it and bend it to his whims. While Afton can inject his soul into objects with a touch, that requires active intent and is by no means a passive effect. Considering the degree he’s getting blitzed, it’s unlikely he could get the touch in without Monokuma dodging it, which isn’t even mentioning Ultimate Analyst allowing them to predict Afton’s movements perfectly.
Other than of this, the closest thing he had to tech possession is commanding simple cables, creating powerful suction to pull techy objects in, and being comparable to other animatronics; who can make rudimentary lights, flashlights, and dated security systems malfunction.
I’m sorry if this came off as rude, offensive, or corrective. If any of what I said is even remotely wrong, please, PLEASE let me know.
DeleteI would go personally for Junko. Not only does Pit makes a great point that her own mind and sound tricks would give Junko an addvantage over Afton's more "tunnel vision" approach. If completely destroying the remnant as well as any possessable material around it is enough for take out the spirit for good, then I don't see how Junko wouldn't think to have a bunch of Monokumas gather around Springtrap and self-destruct all at once before Afton could react and with so much more force that there would be nothing left to return to, even without knowing exactly how his revenant abilties work.
ReplyDeleteIf my very smooth brain with no knowledge of FNAF can figure something like that, imagine how quickly Junko could figure that out with her ultimate analysis.
